Miss Fullard/Barr Beacon School / UK

Barr Beacon School / UK

Hi everyone! My name is Miss Fullard and I am an English teacher here in the UK, working at Barr Beacon School. Our School is located in the middle of England, near the city of Birmingham. We are a mixed comprehensive school and we have over 1500 pupils aged between 11-18.

For this project, I am working with a group of fantastic Year 8 pupils who are all very enthusiastic about studying Frankenstein and they love the idea of working with pupils in other countries as we hope to discover more about the novel.

The pupils are all aged between 12-13 years and have been chosen to be part of this project as they are both high achieving and hard working!

As a class we enjoy having discussions and predicting what will happen as the novel develops. We love our reading sessions and spend time exploring the answers to questions that we pose about why the novelist made certain choices or what the characters might do next.

There are lots of bubbly personalities in the class and everyone is keen to learn about this Gothic novel - alongside our European partners. Here is hoping that we can explore this wonderful, and classic, novel together!

Here is a little bit about Barr Beacon School...and where we are located.

Our School is located in the middle of England, near the city of Birmingham.

As our school name suggests, we are located on what we call 'the Beacon' which is one of the highest points in the local area. From our school site you can see the city skyline - which is really impressive when the British weather allows for spectacular lighting effects! You can also easily see, and walk to, the Barr Beacon Local Nature Reserve. This is an open green space, which features local landmarks, nature trail walks and view across the Birmingham/West Midlands region. We have included a few images to share with you.

Aside from this, and despite being so close to the city, we are also located directly next to farm land and equestrian stables which gives our school a very unique feel!

We are a mixed comprehensive school and we have over 1500 pupils aged between 11-18. Our school recently celebrated its 60th Anniversary and to celebrate we invited all ex-pupils from across the decades to attend a special 'birthday party' event.

We love to celebrate the successes of our pupils and regularly produce newletters for pupils, parents and the local community. You can see what we have been doing as a school by taking a look through our recent newsletter publications: https://barrbeaconschool.co.uk/newsletters/
